Show Review: by Jason Meiser "Stop
Laughing Mom" As Featured in the Informer October 23,
2003
"Sell outs. The University of Hartford’s improve comedy
troupe, “…stop laughing Mom!” are a bunch of sell
outs. They have been selling out the Wilde Auditorium at every performance
in record time this year. If you haven’t yet made it to a
“…stop laughing Mom!” show, make sure you get
a chance to see one. But get there early.
If you’ve seen them you know, but if you haven’t here’s
a little background info: They perform improve comedy like that
on Whose Line is it Anyway, based on audience suggestions. Sometimes
it is hard to tell if you’re laughing because they really
are funny or because you see people that you know making complete
fools of themselves. Perhaps it’s some combination of the
two.
The latest show on Wednesday, October 15 featured Hawkapella as
an opening act. This is the all male a capella group here on campus.
Not only were they talented singers, but they worked some amusing
antics into their act. They performed the always crowd pleasing
“Men” and also introduced a slew of new members.
“…stop laughing Mom!” also introduced new members,
bringing them up to eleven. The new members performed only during
the last act, but proved to be up to par with the rest of the cast.
It will be interesting to watch the new members develop. The show
was incredible, as always. They never fail to put on a good performance.
“…stop laughing Mom!” has proven to be more than
a novelty act; they are consistently funny.
Everyone who goes to a SLM show has a great time. Be on the lookout
for flyers promoting their next performance. Perhaps the best I
can do is to offer some ridiculous material to put on those promotions:
“…stop laughing Mom!” is a roller coaster ride
of massive proportions with utter hilarity around every corner.
Or, SLM will have you on the edge of your seat in anticipation for
the next punch line, which will then cause you to fall out of your
seat laughing. Or maybe, An epic masterpiece of comedic genius,
portrayed right before your very eyes. Ok, I’m not funny,
but “…stop laughing Mom!” is, so go check ‘em
out."
