NASA Summer Academy (Please check back soon for fall 2009 updated information.)

2009 Academy application deadline: January 26th, 2009 at 5:00 pm EST

NASA Academy represents an immersive and integrated multidisciplinary exposure and training, for students with various backgrounds and career aspirations of critical importance to the National aerospace program.

The academic curriculum balances opportunities for direct contact with advanced science and engineering R&D and an awareness of the complex managerial, political, financial, social, and human issues faced by the current and future aerospace programs

Co-sponsorship of the Academy assures recruitment of meritorious students from previously under-represented areas of the country, into leadership positions for the aerospace programs of the future.

The Academy is cost effective, providing a richer program at a cost comparable to other, narrow-focus scholarships, internships, and fellowships.

What is required for the application process?

• Personal/Background information
• Academic standing info.
• 2 letters of recommendation
• Several short essays

After the first round of application reviews, qualified applicants are moved into round two which consists of one or two phone interviews with Academy alumni. Once the interviews are completed each student’s application package is sent to a final selection committee that makes the final decision.

Application

Eligibility

An applicant for Research Associate with the NASA Academy must:

• have a demonstrated interest in space
• have a previous internship or project experience
• be a junior, senior, or first or second year graduate student in Fall 2009
• be in high academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or greater)
• be a US citizen*
  Note: The NASA Academy at Ames will also consider applicants from Canada.

An applicant for Research Associate with the NASA Robotics Academy must:

• have experience in robotics
• be a sophomore, junior, or senior student in Fall 2009
• be in high academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or greater)
• be a US citizen*

An applicant for Team Leader with the NASA Robotics Academy must:

• have a curricular background in robotics
• be a junior, senior, or first or second year graduate student in Fall 2009
• be in high academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or greater)
• be a US citizen*

*Citizens of Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Northern Marianas are considered U.S. citizens.
