The Kent McCray Television Studio

Kent McCray Studio
Come around on any Friday afternoon during the semester and you’ll find yourself on the set of a live student-run news show, STN-2 News, where students are news anchors, directors, floor managers, camera operators and technical crew members as they busily set up and produce the weekly program. The faculty and students of the School of Communication also use the Kent McCray Television Studio facilities for their introductory and advanced classes in television production. The television studio at the University of Hartford is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. Our 30’ X 40’ studio--a hybrid of analog and digital tools--boasts three digital Hitachi studio cameras (4X3 or 16X9 switchable) each with its own Teleprompter, a computerized lighting grid, camera jib, 30’ X 12’ green screen, separate control room, audio room and a Green room with studio monitor. All of the video equipment is routed through a ROSS VISION 1 digital switcher. The walls of the studio are outfitted with acoustical tiles which allow the room to double as a sound stage.

In addition the television studio is equipped with digital field production equipment including Sony Z1U HDV camcorders, DVC-Pro cameras, field audio and lighting packages, tripods and support materials. There is also a Sony Anycast digital field production unit which enables multiple-camera on-site productions. AVID and Final Cut Pro non-linear editing suites round out an excellent post-production facility.
